The Official Max Schaaf Blog

Since I have a big man-crush on Max Schaaf and can’t stop talking about him lately thanks to his series on Epicly Later’d, I figured I’d post up the header graphic from his blog, 4Q Conditioning, since it overwhelmed me with coolness.
For one thing, it’s the biggest and most unconventional header graphic I’ve ever seen. Two, it has weed in it, so like, duh, I was obviously going to like it. Three, to clear the air, I don’t want to have babies with Max Schaaf but I might be willing to have a baby with one of his motorcycles.

The Ghost of Skateboarding Past

I plugged this series back when it started, but a new episode in the Max Schaaf miniseries on Epicly Later’d just went up today and holy hell is it awesome. These are easily some of the best episodes Patrick has ever produced — Max’s stories are so interesting, the vintage footage is super fun to watch… I mean, shit, on a rainy day this is as close to feeling like you’re actually skateboarding as you can get.
If I had missed any of the signs of becoming an “old dude,” it’s definitely official now. Nostalgia for ramp skating is the number one indicator that you’ve passed on to “the other side.” Looks like I’ve got a long future of putting on weight and scaring kids at the skate park to get excited about.

I always explain it to people like this, like, “Dude, you could come here with 20 grand or 25 grand and I could build you like the coolest bike, and you could put on some dirty shit and like go around and pretend to be Billy Bad Boy… and you know what? People might buy it.
You could never do it with a skateboard. I could sell you the most epic fucking board ever, and you could show up at the skate park with the fucking coolest Lakai’s or whatever they are, and you’re going to drop in and everyone’s going to know right away that you’re a fucking phony.
Max Schaaf is the shit. Totally badass in an area of skateboarding that usually involves way too many Bagel Bites stickers. The first episode in his miniseries is on Epicly Laterd now and it has lots of motorcycles in it and it is awesome.
