Dirtier than thou

If there’s one thing worth complaining about HUF’s latest bevy of commercials, is that they’re just too damn short. Nonetheless, at their brief length, they function as perfect little nuggets of stoke. Simple, raw, and to the point, if this doesn’t get you hyped to skate, then I don’t know man, maybe your membership to our super cool club needs to be revoked. That’s all I’m sayin’.

The wallride to hill bomb and fountain line with the fastest backside flip out alone are worth clicking the play button for.

Dirtbag Baby

These promo videos for HUF’s new line of footwear have been popping up all over the Internet for a few weeks as a staggered release, so I figured I’d post the whole collection of them for those who haven’t seen them yet.

Netflix, TiVo be damned. You will sit through commercials, and fuck it, you will like them. What does it say about a culture when commercials become a primary form of entertainment? I don’t know, or rather, I don’t feel like flexing my occasionally useful Communications and Media Studies degree at the moment.

More importantly, I’m concerned for the skateboarding subculture. There was a time when it was more insulated from the horrors of money. Of course, that’s ancient history, and now we are witness to an industry where amid a constant deluge of generic clips, a handful of 20 second sneaker commercials seem like some of the most valuable viewing material. Then again, maybe that’s just the strange voodoo of Keith Hufnagel. I always figured there were some kind of dark arts to blame for that legendary pop. Read More

Down by the Bay

Although his music isn’t my personal cup of tea — like my drugs, I prefer my tea green — Mayer Hawthorne’s soulful crooning does something for the guys over at HUF. Hawthorne’s two-month US tour is ending on April 15th (today) in San Francisco, and to commemorate the occasion, HUF is releasing a limited run of t-shirts (whatevers) alongside this promotional video (sweet).

The clip, filmed and edited by Martin Reigel and featuring Keith Hufnagel, Billy Teichen, and several other SF locals, entertains on multiple levels — it’s part skate video, part music video, hell, it’s practically a Bay Area tourism promotion. It’s gorgeously shot, and paired with the Mayer Hawthorne’s moody rendition of Tony Bennet’s classic “I Left My Heart In San Francisco”, you might end up feeling a bit like your heart is there as well.

Nothing but the truth

Skate shop of the gods, HUF, just put out a short commercial for their newest collaboration with Nike starring Omar Salazar. All marketing aside, the skating in this clip is the shit. Omar skates fast as fuck… this is the definition of “ripping” in case you were wondering.

Shit, I don’t know guys… it must be the Nike’s.
