Death-defying, yes, gravity-defying... not so much

A couple weeks ago I pointed out Roberto Jimenez’s absolutely ludicrous early grab backflip 50-50, and now Thrasher comes to us with the exclusive footage of this gravity-challenged grom’s latest, horrifying maneuver: the double backflip. As the video reveals, it is perhaps a trick best left to rollerbladers and those weird French guys who run all over buildings and shit. While it is true that plaid shorts are one of the more egregious skateboard-fashion foibles, I think we can all agree that attempting a double backflip without a helmet on a shitty, prefab metal ramp that probably has all kinds of nasty exposed screws and sharp, rusty edges is pretty much the ballsiest thing ever. If something seems like this bad of an idea… it usually is.

He comes nowhere close to landing it, but you’ve got to admire the kid’s commitment. Or fear it.

If you’re that mellow about cracking your head open, chances are good you really did crack your head open. And at that point, I really do begin questioning young Roberto’s personal sense of self preservation. Perhaps an upbringing of EA Skate and unfathomable mega-ramp shenanigans have turned a generation of impressionable skaters into borderline psychopaths — kind of like that dude in Brazil a few years back who thought he was Duke Nukem, went ape-shit on a movie theater and then started shooting the posters hoping to reveal hidden boxes of ammo. Note: he did not find any.

    A plus for effort!

The thrasher video player is horrible though. You have sit through a 13 second advert to see a 15 second clip (which also contains adverts) and when you try to full screen the video before the ad is over you’re taken away to the sponsors website. If that wasn’t bad enough the video freezes as soon as you do that meaning you need to refresh the page and watch the whole ad again. Perfect!

Indeed, I too lament the lack of a mirrored YouTube channel. Crailtap’s got it down.
