Art imitates life

The Beaver’s existence came as a bit of a surprise to me, as did the fact that anyone was still willing to cast Mel Gibson in anything. The chances of audiences taking this absurd concept seriously is a long shot to begin with, but throw Opus Dei’s favorite Australian psychological breakdown into the mix and I believe you’ve just concocted box office poison.

Naturally, it was only a matter of very little time before somebody recut the film’s trailer, dubbing in Gibson’s alcohol-fueled (or perhaps just crazy-person-fueled) explicit, screaming phone calls to ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva in place of his puppet’s more child-friendly quips. The end product is not only hilarious, but quite possibly a trailer for a movie actually worth seeing.
