Ice cold

A little while ago, it occurred to me that I’m never going to get my long-coveted sponsorship from Vans if I keep promoting Lakai as heavily as I do. The truth is, I do love Lakai’s overall stylo — the company is owned by two of the most respected pros of our era in skateboarding, their large budget affords some truly stunning video productions, and the team is stacked with mind-rattling talent (and I’m only talking about Marc Johnson here, wait til you see the other guys!) At the same time, I’ve actually never skated a single pair of Lakais in the entire decade I’ve spent fucking around on four wheels. Nope, not even the pair I designed. Only Vans have graced my grip tape, because I’m a 14 year old girl who loves all the awesome colored slip-ons they have at the mall.

Nonetheless, I’m going to keep on promoting Lakai in the hopes that I can score a deal with Vans anyway, since after all, it worked for Alex Olson. (P.S. I hope the “zing” is implied there, but if not — zing!)

Remember how I said Lakai’s team was studded with superstars? Well, for those who somehow don’t know, Nick Jensen is one of Lakai’s British imports, and he gives the Queen’s cobblestones a good what-for in this autumnal clip. And not to discredit Nick at all, particularly in light of the rapid-fire nollie 3 over the street gap and all that tomfoolery on the iceblock, but I’ve gotta ask — how long are we to tolerate people pushing mongo when skating switch? It’s practically 2011 for fuck’s sake. The human race only has a year left to live and we’re still pushing mongo? Leave humanity a legacy worth remembering — push with your back foot.
