Handjob
In yesterday’s post about the Evil Dead movies, I mentioned that the monster severed hand idea came from a short film directed by Evil Dead II co-writer Scott Spiegel, called Attack of the Helping Hand. And that was a monster of a lead sentence, fuck.
In the makings of a beautiful friendship, the short starred a young Sam Raimi, who would go on to write and direct the Evil Dead trilogy. To bring the entire project full circle, Bruce Campbell was also involved as a cameraman. A dream team, to be sure, and thanks to the thoughtless, copyright-infringing YouTube community, we can now watch that dream team do what they do best: put really demented ideas on the big screen. Or in this case, a fairly small screen embedded within a blog post.
Quentin Tarantino wakes up at night, sweating, stuck to his bedsheets, after dreaming about creating something this incredibly campy. It’s bad… oh it’s bad, but honey haven’t you heard? Sometimes bad is good.
