All downhill from here
There’s been far too much skateboarding coverage on ESPN lately for me to be comfortable with, but I’ve got to hand it to them, this gallery of classic Bryce Kanights photos from the late 80s and early 90s is quality viewing material.

This particular shot of an old favorite of mine, Chris Senn, blasting a huge ollie in the streets of San Francisco caught my eye — it’s not just a photo of a great trick, but it transcends as something more. Bryce Kanights captured a perfect moment in time here. In that second, frozen in time forever, we can see what skateboarding truly is — fast, personal, utterly free, and just a little bit scary. That’s what I really love about this photo.
Of course the goons at ESPN would never understand that, but kudos for trying anyway, jocks. Now how about you run along and leave it to us dirtbags?
As long as you lump skateboarding in with freestyle fixed gear, aggressive Razor scooter hootenanny, motorcycle sky dancing, and whatever else the retards are all running to Toys R’ Us for these days, under the ridiculous “action sports” umbrella term, you will have no business posting anything about skateboarding. What the fuck makes “action sports” different from “traditional sports” anyway? Do they not also include a fair amount of action themselves, or are you just finally freely admitting that watching baseball is boring as fucking hell?
